Required Reading: DTMTBD Oral History

Big news day!

DTMTBD

I’m talking about Buzzfeed’s investigative journalism. Their piece, an oral history on the cult classic Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead is required reading this week. The film that confused legions of children raised in the 90s into thinking a referee uniform constituted high fashion.

Here’s a taste:

“I remember fighting for David Duchovny,” she said of the actor who would go on to play Bruce, Carolyn’s boyfriend/righthand man in attempting to expose Sue Ellen’s real age — and eventually, of course, Fox Mulder on The X-Files. “He’d done nothing!”

David Duchovny as Bruce.

For Duchovny, the film was memorable for two reasons: “It was maybe the first or second job I got here when I moved out to Los Angeles,” he told BuzzFeed News. “And I remember I had this really bad hairdo.”

  1. 1. My child’s name is Rose and I intend to say that to her constantly during her adolescence. 2. It’s weird when favorite movies are considered “cult classics”…I always think “wait, EVERYONE loves this movie.”
